  139.           The Clearance and Access Monitoring System (CAMS) (1) assists
  140.           security managers in maintaining local records on the security
  141.           clearances, access authorizations and investigative status of
  142.           personnel who require access to classified information; assists
  143.           the security managers in preparation of visit requests in Word-
  144.           Perfect (2) and in maintaining records on visit requests;
  145.           produces a variety of formatted reports to assist in management
  146.           and allows you to design a local report.  Both Government agen-
  147.           cies and contractors may use CAMS.  CAMS operates on an IBM per-
  148.           sonal computer or compatible in a PC-DOS or MS-DOS (3) envi-
  149.           ronment.

  151.           The Clearance and Access Monitoring System (Queries) (CAMS(Q))
  152.           operates as a remote station on a network to allow others, such
  153.           as entry control personnel to determine an individual's status
  154.           before granting access.  CAMS(Q) is only functional with CAMS
  155.           version 1.2 or above, you must have CAMS to use CAMS(Q).  When
  156.           CAMS appears, the reference is to CAMS.EXE and its associated
  157.           files; when CAMS(Q) appears, the reference is to CAMS(Q) and its
  158.           files.

  160.           To start CAMS(Q), change into the directory containing CAMSQ.EXE
  161.           (e.g. "CD\CAMSQ" and press <ENTER>), type "CAMSQ" (DOS is case
  162.           insensitive), and press <ENTER>.  Refer to "Files" and "Command
  163.           Line Arguments" in Section 3.  CAMS(Q) counts down as it initi-
  164.           alizes itself, retrieves user-specified parameters, and verifies
  165.           the integrity of its databases.  CAMS(Q) then displays the copy-
  166.           right notice.  When you press a key, CAMS(Q) displays the menu.

  204.           If you received CAMS(Q) on a diskette you may use QINSTALL.BAT to
  205.           install the program.  Insert the diskette containing the files
  206.           into a floppy drive (either A or B).  At the DOS prompt, type
  207.           "QINSTALL <drive1> <drive2>" <ENTER> (e.g. "QINSTALL A C") where
  208.           drive1 contains the source diskette and drive2 is the destination
  209.           for the CAMS(Q) files.  QINSTALL.BAT will provide user informa-
  210.           tion as it proceeds.

  212.           If QCAMS is running in MS-DOS, the statement "DEVICE = ANSI.SYS"
  213.           must appear in the file named CONFIG.SYS in the root directory of
  214.           the boot disk and ANSI.SYS must be accessible during the boot

  269.           3.1  Command Line Arguments.  
  270.  
  271.           CAMS(Q) looks for its database on the disk and in the directory
  272.           which is current at the time you begin the program.  You may tell
  273.           CAMS(Q) to look in the root directory of a different drive.  For
  274.           example, "CAMSQ J:" instructs CAMS(Q) to look for the databases in
  275.           the directory which has been designated as drive J within your
  276.           LAN software.  If the database is not in the current disk/
  277.           directory, CAMS(Q) will notify you that a valid ACTIVE.DBF was
  278.           missing and that you should determine the fault and restart
  279.           CAMS(Q).  ACTIVE can only be created by CAMS.

  281.           3.2  Database Records.  
  282.  
  283.           CAMS stores data pertaining to an individual in a record in
  284.           ACTIVE.  Appendix A is the record description.

  286.           3.3  Exit.  (E)

  288.           To end the current CAMS(Q) run, press "E" or move to "Exit" and
  289.           press <ENTER>.

  291.           3.4  Files.  
  292.  
  293.           CAMS(Q) requires CAMSQ.EXE to execute; if CAMSQ.EXE is not
  294.           present, DOS will respond with "bad command or file name" or an
  295.           equivalent when you attempt to start CAMS(Q). While intializing,
  296.           CAMS(Q) will search for the following additional files: 
  297.           CAMSQ.MEM, ACTIVE.DBF and ACTIVE.NDX; failure to find CAMSQ.MEM
  298.           is not critical; CAMS(Q) will create CAMSQ.MEM.  CAMSQ.MEM will
  299.           be located in the same drive and directory as CAMSQ.EXE; the
  300.           other files will be located in the drive and directory estab-
  301.           lished by the user of CAMS.EXE.

  303.           3.5  Check a Record.  (C)
  304.  
  305.           CAMS(Q) prompts you for an SSN.  If CAMS(Q) finds the SSN it dis-
  306.           plays the associated record for review.  (See "Social Security
  307.           Number Prompts" for information about those prompts.)

  309.           3.6  Menu.

  311.           The CAMS(Q) menu features four options:  Check a Record, Organi-
  312.           zation, Screen Colors  and Exit.  Upon initialization, the
  313.           CAMS(Q) selection bar rests on Check a Record.

  315.           3.7  Networks.  CAMS(Q) contains network-compatible instructions. 
  316.           It has been tested in a limited network environment.  A separate
  317.           program, the Clearance and Access Monitoring System (CAMS), which

  335.           3.8  Protection of Data.

  337.           ACTIVE contains the SSN of each person in the databases.  The
  338.           Privacy Act of 1974 protects such data.  Users should protect
  339.           system memory, magnetic media and the monitor screen accordingly.

  341.           3.9  Screen Colors.  (S)

  343.           You may control the colors of the following:  Full Screens, Menu
  344.           Boxes, Dialogue Boxes, Select Bars, and Notice Boxes.  When you
  345.           select quit from the screen color procedure, CAMS(Q) rewrites the
  346.           screen to implement the color changes and writes the new color
  347.           information to its memory file, CAMS(Q).MEM.

  349.           3.10  Screen Navigation.

  351.           In the Menu, you may move the selection bar by pressing either
  352.           the up or down arrow key (  or  ) or the initial letter of the
  353.           procedure.  If you choose to press the initial letter of the
  354.           procedure, CAMS(Q) will move the selection bar and execute the
  355.           procedure.

  357.           3.11  Screens.  
  358.  
  359.           CAMS(Q) presents data pertaining to individual records in a full-
  360.           screen format (Appendix B).

  362.           3.12  Organization.  (O)
  363.  
  364.           CAMS(Q) allows you to identify the using organization with up to
  365.           three lines of text which will be displayed on the screen.  When
  366.           you finish editing the text of those lines, CAMS(Q) rewrites the
  367.           screen to implement any changes and writes the information its
  368.           memory file, CAMSQ.MEM.

  370.           3.13  Social Security Number (SSN).  
  371.  
  372.           ACTIVE is permanently indexed on the SSN.  Checking a record re-
  373.           quires you to know the SSN in a record.  At an SSN prompt, if you
  374.           press <ENTER> on an empty SSN field, CAMS(Q) returns to the menu. 
  375.           After you enter nine digits into the SSN field or if you press
  376.           <ENTER> with a digit in any one of the nine available spaces,
  377.           CAMS(Q) seeks the record with that SSN.  If the search fails
  378.           CAMS(Q) offers you options:  Correct the SSN or Return.  If you

  594.      Shareware distribution gives users a chance to try software before buying
  595.      it.  If you try a Shareware program and continue using it, you are expected
  596.      to register.  In the case of CAMS(Q), users are authorized to try the
  597.      program for 90 days before registering.  Registration grants you the
  598.      continued right to use the program and access to technical support from the
  599.      author and copyright holder.

  602.      copyright holder retains all rights, with a few specific exceptions as
  603.      stated below.  Shareware authors are accomplished programmers, just like
